Authority History

The East Cocalico Township Authority was established in 1956 and incorporated on February 21, 1957, to provide a safe water supply to an estimated 900 customers in East Cocalico Township. The Authority has grown over the last 60 years from a total of two wells to its current number of 12 permitted wells. The Authority also operates four water storage tanks in the Township with a total capacity of 4,700,000 gallons. In July 2015, the Authority began operating a new water treatment plant located in the Stevens area. The Authority is permitted by the Susquehanna River Basin Commission to withdraw up to 1,395,000 gallons of water per day from its series of wells. Currently, the Authority withdrawals on average about 600,000 gallons of water per day to meet the needs of its nearly 2,600 residential, commercial and industrial customers.

Sanitary sewer conveyance and treatment began throughout portions of East Cocalico Township in 1964. Over the years, this service has expanded to include nearly 2,800 customers and over 50 miles of sanitary sewer mains and laterals. The Authority operates five sanitary sewer pumping stations throughout the Township that collect and transmit wastewater to either Ephrata Borough's Treatment Plant #2 or Adamstown Borough's Treatment Plant.

As always, the Authority remains committed in its mission to provide safe and dependable water and sanitary sewer services to our customers in a cost effective manner.
