Source Water Protection

The primary mission of the East Cocalico Township Authority (ECTA) is to provide safe drinking water to its customers. Water is treated from its original state to meet the quality standards set for consumption. However, water providers rarely have control of the water supply before it gets to their system.  In 2020, the ECTA partnered with the Pennsylvania Rural Water Association and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to develop a Source Water Protection Plan. A Source Water Protection Plan guides a water utility through the process of identifying potential threats to public drinking water and water treatment facilities and outline plans of action in advance of problems. Following almost two years of work and collaboration, ECTA’s Source Water Protection Plan was approved in April 2022!  Having an approved plan is an accomplishment, but the work has just begun. The ECTA is committed to working with customers, land owners, and community partners to implement protections of our water supply.
